THREAD VEIN TREATMENTS

Thread veins on the legs are also called spider veins, broken veins, surface veins or venous flares. Thread veins are small superficial veins and may be a result of underlying varicose veins.

At The Bosham Clinic we will do a detailed venous system examination which includes a handheld doppler check to help us in deciding a suitable treatment for you. If needed, we can refer you on to have your varicose veins seen to.

At The Bosham Clinic we do thread vein removal by either using microsclerotherapy or radiosurgery. We feel that both procedures yield excellent results and our Doctors will decide which treatment would be best for you.

WHAT IS MICROSCLEROTHERAPY?

Microsclerotherapy is a treatment that involves injecting a chemical with tiny needles into thread veins on legs. This destroys the vein, making the walls of the veins stick together. The treatment itself is not uncomfortable and allergies are rare.

WHAT IS RADIOSURGERY?

Radiosurgery is the passage of ultra-high-frequency radio waves into the skin to eliminate thread veins. Radiosurgery uses a four-megahertz frequency, which is higher than the frequency for AM radios, but lower than the frequency for television and lasers. It makes very fine, precise, gentle punctures. A thin micro-insulated wire is gently inserted into the unwanted vein. Only the tissue cells immediately adjacent to the wire electrose are affected.

HOW DOES RADIOSURGERY DIFFER FROM OTHER PROCEDURES?

Lasers and cautery are less delicate than Radiosurgery. They can cause excessive tissue burns, which lead to slower healing with more redness and inflammation.

DO I NEED TO WEAR COMPRESSION STOCKINGS?

At The Bosham Clinic, we do advise wearing compression stockings for about a week after treatment. We do know that many patients feel that this is not necessary, however, for best results, we advise that stockings are worn.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENTS?

There might be slight redness and inflammation at the sight of injection. This can last up to two weeks and is a positive sign. It can take up to 12 weeks for the area to settle and for the full benefit of the treatment to show.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WOULD I NEED?

Depending on the number of thread veins, several sessions might be needed to get the required result. Most people will need only two sessions.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Sessions start from £200 per 30 minutes.
